sunday celebration services
In the six Sundays leading up to Easter, we will symbolically and metaphysically enter the Garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus spent his final night before the crucifixion. The story of Jesus' final night offers us deep insight into this human experience and how to be present to the Divine even in difficult moments.
In his book Keep a True Lent, Charles Fillmore says:
"Gethsemane is symbolic of the struggle that takes place within the consciousness when Truth is realized as the one reality. It is a condition that man works through when he recognizes that God is all and that he must be willing to sacrifice all for God."
At this point, you may be saying "No, I can't sacrifice it all!" However, we are not asked to sacrifice our lives, but how we are living them. In spiritual understanding, we are being asked to sacrifice our error consciousness - those thoughts, beliefs, habits, words, and actions that no longer serve us and keep us feeling disconnected from the God of our knowing.
Even the Buddha understood that moments of illness are transitory, while Universal Spiritual Law, known as Dharma, is unchanging. While the human variation of how the spiritual teachings are taught might come and go, the fundamental spiritual principles remain constant.
As you enter this Lenten season, I invite you to choose one repetitive thought, belief, habit, phrase, or action that keeps you from seeing God in times of busyness, struggle, confusion, and strife. Then, I invite you work towards releasing it.
Are you ready to sacrifice your negative thinking for something greater?
Are you ready to see more of the Divine in life and feel more connected to the ever-present Source we call God?
