the tibetan monks of the drepung gomang monastery
The Tibetan Sacred Art Tour
January 16 - 21, 2018
Join Unity Spiritual Center as we host the Tibetan Monks of the Drepung Gomang Monastery. Endorsed by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, the Buddhist Monks will share their rare, ancient, culturally rich and diverse Tibetan art, customs and spiritual wisdom with the citizens of Panama City.
Beginning Tuesday, January 16 the Monks will start the creation of the Sand Mandala. This breathtaking, ancient form of Tibetan Buddhism is a representation of some aspect of wisdom or guiding principle created in multi-colored sands. Visit Unity Spiritual Center daily to witness for yourself as the beautiful designs emerge. The center will be open to the public Tuesday thru Friday, January 16 - 19 from 10 am to 7 pm, and Saturday, January 20, 10 am to 2 pm to view the mandala.
Sand Mandala Admission prices are $5.00 per person, $10 for families and a $20.00 per person pass good for all five days of the mandala creation (Pass is non-transferable). Tickets will be at the door. We kindly ask that you respect the monks and do not disturb them as they work on the mandala.
Then on Saturday, January 20 at 7 pm the Tibetan Monks will present their Cultural Pageant at the Martin Theatre, 409 Harrison Ave., Panama City. The cultural performance features the Monks in full regalia as they engage in dance, song, chanting and give a fascinating example of the debate they use to train their thinking.
Tickets for the pageant are $30, $25, $15 and are on-sale NOW at the Martin Theater box office or, on-line at www.martintheatre.com.
Please check our website regularly as new events with the Monks will be added.
A portion of the proceeds raised during the week will go to support the monks ability to educate, feed, house and care for close to 2,000 monks in a Tibetan Refugee camp in South India.
