Come take a walk through Unity of Panama City's Labyrinth.

The Purpose of a Labyrinth
A labyrinth is not a maze; there are no tricks or dead ends. It is one continuous path that
leads you into the center and then back out again. One cannot get lost, and success is assured.
At its most basic level, the labyrinth is a metaphor for the journey to the center of your
deepest self and back out into the world with a broadened understanding of who you are.
The power of walking the path of the labyrinth is in its simplicity. The labyrinth presents an orderly
orderly path to quiet the mind, and as the body moves into a peaceful rhythm of walking, one
becomes more closely in tune with God. Step-by-step one becomes more receptive to insight
and illumination.
Walking the labyrinth is not something to learn or memorize, but a transformative prayer experience. It is a walking meditation, a devotional act of worship, and a sacred celebration of life. Think of it as a personal pilgrimage to spiritual wholeness - a "closer walk with God."

The Labyrinth Tradition
Labyrinths have an ancient history dating back at least 4000 years. Historians believe that labyrinths were walked by pilgrims in medieval times; perhaps those who could not make the pilgrimage to the Holy City walked these labyrinths with the center representing symbolically the New Jerusalem. Labyrinth designs have been found on Cretan coins and pottery, on a rock carving in Sardinia dating from 2500-2000 B.C., and in mounded earth in fields in England, Ireland and Scandinavia. Some labyrinths are round, some are square, and some are octagonal. And all have varying patterns.
Churches in many cities across the United States have recently created their own labyrinths, some indoors, and some outdoors. People around the country are once again walking the path and engaging in its powerful process of spiritual transformation.
