A new chapter in the history of Unity Spiritual Center of Panama City began on October 10, 2018, when Hurricane Michael, a Category 5 Storm, came ashore in Bay County, with the eye centered over the Mexico Beach area. The storm significantly damaged the infrastructure, trees, buildings, and businesses in and around Bay County. For 19 years, our beautiful, physical facility on Lisenby Avenue was our unique home and meeting place. It was not spared from the forces of Hurricane Michael, suffering significant damage. On December 16, 2018, the congregation voted to sell our building. We began holding our Sunday morning service at Temple B'nai Israel on January 27, 2019. On March 15, 2019, the sale of the building was finalized. We have since moved our office space to Temple B'nai and have begun holding weekly classes, meditation, and other events at the Temple. We are grateful to be sharing physical space with the congregation of Temple B'nai Israel. This will be the home of our Spiritual Community for the foreseeable future.
We know the essence of who we are as a spiritual community is one of loving, caring people who inspire to create an environment for personal transformation. We also acknowledge our Lisenby home has had a very deep connection to our history and, yes, a deep, meaningful spiritual experience for all of us. Many, if not most, are still grieving this loss and we lift up each person and their grief to the healing energy, love, and power of Spirit. In spite of the circumstances in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael, we have been blessed and lifted up in pray by many, many people and Spiritual Centers in our movement. We are truly grateful for the gracious support and loving, affirming prayers. We affirm perfect guidance as we move forward in this transition. Despite all appearances, the Universe has our back and the Goodness of the One presence draws us to something even better than before Hurricane Michael.
